I started cycling last year, I was really out of shape. I was heavy so I was barely at 1 watt/kg. I was on the bike 3 times a week, lost 30 lbs + and now I'm at 2 watts / kg. Ftp is approx 160-180. 85kgs. 45 years old.

10 years ago when I was age 21 I started with 245watts for 1 hour. Background was 16 years of soccer (nearly every week of training).
After those 10 years I am now at 350watts for one hour and broke 5W/kg. Still moving up but it's getting harder. Keep pushing 😉🥳

i train again since 5 years now i am 41 years old my weight is 82kg and lost my left leg 36 years ago in case of cancer, so i can sustain 287 watt average for 35 min and about 252 for one hour.

I'm 43 years old and started road cycling in January 2021 (at 42). Used to go for a run occasionally and off-and-on in the past and I am kitesurfing since about 15 years, with a multi-year break when my kids were little. Estimated cycling FTP was probably not higher than 150 W when starting beginning of 2021. Cycled around 40 km per week overall average in 2021 and close to 100 km per week since beginning 2022. Did my first 100 km road cycling group tour last week. Measured FTP (with dual power meters) is now 245 W. Physical and mental impact are big: I am much stronger, sleep better and generally feel good and energized all the time, with no more feelings of stress/anxiety. Sports have become an essential part of my routine now and I look forward to progressing towards a 300 W FTP.

My FTP is 260 watts. I started cycling 4 years ago from an inability to even sprint 50m... 2 years ago when I bought clipless pedals I was at 110 FTP, last year I was at 190. Now 260 =)

Fell in love with cycling, finding the sport I can do very well. In 8 months of polarized training 6 days a week I'm currently at 4.6watt/kg with a goal of 5.5. Coming from a rock scrambling and casual MTB background. I expect to reach that in 16-24 months. Eat, live, breath, and rest cycling. Maybe an altitude tent is next! I want to crush e-bikes!

What a really great video. I've learned quite a bit from watching sickbikers videos, and one of them is that i will never be good enough to enter a bike race as i cant sustain over 200 watts for longer than about 10 minutes, even with plenty of good hard training.

Opened the video for the power numbers, stayed for the music at the end.

I don't think you can categorically say, if your ftp is 200, then you'll be able to race and be competitive. It depends on the course, and a more telling number is going to be watts/kg, especially on rides that involve any climbing.

I've been cycling for only 4 years and at 41 years old, I test 301 Ftp @69kg/4.36w/kg. I could lose 2kg to be in race shape and I'm only 3 weeks into the first of 4 months of interval blocks following base training, so my aim will be 315 Ftp in 3 months time. I jave a weird heart. Max hr of only 164, but a resting heart rate of 37.

Seriously aiming for 335 ftp or 5w/kg by 45 years old, which will be my peak. Never ridden in a group though because I'm an expat in China. Desperately would like to test myself in races.

Started cycling frequently at the start of March (one month ago) when i got my first Road bike (did infrequent rides on a mtn bike starting 4 months prior to that). Currently weigh 73kgs and have an FTP of around 170w, striving to improve it though :) Great video!

23, 55kg, FTP of 239w. Looking at a lot of the other numbers here I feel like I stack up alright. I don't go well into a headwind though.

It's not just about FTP. Racing is a different ball game. You need explosive power and fast recovery to accelerate out of corners and keep the wheels when the leaders put the hammer down. I am 42yrs old, 75kg and my FTP is around 330. If you want to race in the UK you need to sustain 4.5w/kg for over an hour, and be able to push out 700+ watts at least for short bursts. The last time I raced (CAT4) the pace hit 50kmh from the flag, into a headwind and up a false flat. I was off the back after 2km.

I feel comfortable going down hill. Came here after a search for how many watts a cyclist can put out. This video is amazing in explaining power levels

27 years old - 81 kg - 193 cm - just got back into biking 2 years ago and am up to 300 w FTP. Still deciding whether my physiology is better for sprinting, time trials, or whatever. Love being on the bike and excited to keep pushing my fitness further

I started cycling on and off last summer but almost nothing (and no background in sports or working out whatsoever) 34yrs old guy, 75kg 181cm. After maybe a month dedicated training this spring I did a lactate and VO2max test which showed my LT @ 115w/125bpm and AT (FTP) @ 165w/165bpm. Max pulse 201bpm. VO2 3368ml/min = 44, 9 VO2Max and I had to stop the test at 240w because my legs had no power left. At that point my lactate level was 9, 3mmol/l. The test was performed 2023-03-20 and I´ve now cycled according to a dedicated schedule with about 3 rest days a week. I just came back from what was supposed to be my first real HIIT session and it didnt go as planned, but anyway during the ride my 20min max power was 206W, and I feel a good improvement since the test. In 2 months I´ll do a follow-up test same as the first one, if I remember I can comment below this about my results after 4 months training.
