Let me remind you people King Kong is more of an adventure movie, Godzilla was a disaster movie with "end of the world" looming over the monsters battles so it had to be taken seriously because that was Godzilla's theme.

King Kong on the other hand was not really straight up horror or even the kind that would use symbolism to show the dangers of nuclear war like Godzilla, It was a movie for fun and entertainment so it is logical they would have some comedy to go with the scary and serious stuff. Plus what happens in this island probably isn't gonna effect the world so much, just the main cast, its not as urgent...
