A lot of beginners are unable to do negatives. Starting with band pullups, adding in scapular raises and australian pull ups/trx rows is a good point to start in to get the strength to progress to negatives.

If you are beginner using bands to achieve a full range of motion is actually very important for gaining the strength to do them properly

You’re arguing for the band…it makes sense to have the most help in the hardest part…but the hardest part is the top, not the bottom.

I’m still in the beginning stage and now I can do 5 pull ups. This lady is right. You should add in negative pull ups and instead of bands I use a chair. I also add in plenty of other workouts

You can absolutly get your first pullup with bands, moreover the lowest part is actually the easiest, so using band promotes person learning to do pullups with better activation on the top which is something many people have to lelern. If bottom part is the hardest for you, you are messing up the form or have some unadressed imbalances.

Negative pull ups can be quite problematic as you don't have enough strength to control the excentric phase. In the worst case this can lead to injuries.

I learned pull ups with bands. I recommend to do both. I couldn't do a negative pull up in the beginning. Negatives, bands et eventually other exercises are a good combination.

I love banded pull ups!! They are a great way to improve your pull up strength and I feel played a very big role in helping me achieve my first pull up! That being said if you want the most out of your pull training combine dead hangs, scapular pull-ups, banded pull-ups & negative pull ups. With consistency you’ll get quick results ☺️

What you need to exercise depends on where you're stronger or weaker. Negatives and Bands target different movements better. Best to combine & individualize to your needs.

I always had the last part of the rep be the hardest for me. I can do a couple and then when I get to rep 5 I'm barely getting my chin over the bar if at all

So true. I did the assisted pull up machine at the gym, pull downs and banded pull ups consistently for TEN years and never managed an actual pullup. Thought I'm just not genetically blessed in that area. Then started doing negative pullups instead and got there within just a few more months.

I used the TRX for bodyweight rows to start with. I also got really good at dead hangs to truly build that grip strength. From there I progressed to scapular pulls, negatives, chin ups and then pull ups. No assisted machine and no bands. All of these movements force you to engage your core in order to build strength and rom. Took a few months focusing twice a week on it but you can’t rush the process. Got to be prepared to go on the journey.

The problem is most people have strength in different ranges, which in the case of pullups, tends be be at the lowest part of the exercise. It's not often that your back and arms are fully extended and now require to generate enough force to lift your body. Work the negatives in ranges, about every 20 degrees or so, or isometric holds in those ranges. Use a box to get the desired starting height and pull slightly off the box, then slowly lower back down (or hold), even at the lowest ranges. If this is too difficult, then use a light band to assist in those ranges. If that is still too difficult, other methods such as activation practice with bands or use of weights to help strengthen problem areas.

I've never used bands. I did work jumping negatives and holds to get me to my 1st pull-ups.

The hardest part of a pull up is the top part not the lower and bands help you at the bottom or stretched part which is generally the most beneficial
