I have been a metal head for many years recently stumbled upon these guys gave me a much broader appreciation for different artists.

Not sure why there's so much criticism on this video. It touched my soul in the same way their other videos have, as does the song itself.

Yes, their other videos have been more narrative focused, with much more in the way of extras and effects and whatnot. This doesn't need that. This song isn't about a story or character so much as a state of being.

So while, yes in a way this is a departure from the norm, this is in no way a bad thing, nor does it detract what they have accomplished in this video/song. Different does not equate worse. Any artist knows they must grow and change as they mature, they must explore genres and styles that are unfamiliar. Doing the same thing over and over will become stale eventually.

The problem is once an artist decides to go a different direction, half their fans will say it isn't as good, because it wasn't what they were expecting. If they then go back to their original direction, those fans will be appeased, but the other half will feel bored and stagnant. Unfortunately, you can please everybody some of the time, and you can please some people all the time, but you cannot please everybody all the time.

Me? I choose to look at this video for what it is, not in comparison to their others, because they are not the same genre of video. They had different purposes. I personally found it hit me harder than the video for Choice Millionaire did. Choice Millionaire felt like a story, some narrative that I was watching, but was totally removed from myself. It's as if this one was a reflection of my own soul, the person I show on the outside vs the one who is toiling away inside, clawing to be released.

Another fantastic video from this generations greatest musical artists.
