I give him so much credit for having the courage to come out about his dad, so openly...wow! That had to have been hard.

That's so true! My father was german, his father from Münster and his mother from Tirol, Austria. My family told us lots of stories that the majority of the german population didn't know anything about concentration camps. Told also about thousands of german soldiers who killed themselves because of what they saw and were against that barbarie. When the war ended, german citizens were being murdered, attacked, and violated... men, women, children, out of vengeance. Many many citizens were also against the war and suffered for something they didn't do. When the allies brought to light what was happening, their hearts sunk! They knew they were walking people dead without anyone to defend them; so, they flew. My grandparents moved to Brasil to save themselves, and in doing so, their children wouldn't have to ever go to the military. Other family members moved to U.S. and Netherlands. We lost family members who were pilots, both in Austria and Germany. Nazi army, but totally enforced to fight. My cousins were very handsome, intelligent guys, and til these days, we have sadness lingering inside for losing them and being stained by the nazism. 😢
