Race, Memory and Memorialization Conference, May 4, 2018 - Session 2
Показать описание
In the wake of Charlottesville, communities across the nation are re-evaluating memorials and the history that they represent. On the occasion of the Center’s fifth anniversary, the Center for the Study of Slavery & Justice presents the Race, Memory and Memorialization Conference. This conference aims to examine the activism behind the Southern Freedom Movement and critically question the ways in which slavery and the Civil Rights Movement have been represented through memorials and exhibitions. The conference will pose questions about commemoration, history and memory in the present.
This conference was made possible with support from the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity, the Center for the Study of Race & Ethnicity in America, and the Department of Africana Studies, Rites and Reason Theatre. The Center for the Study of Slavery & Justice would like to sincerely thank undergraduate conference organizers Sophie Kupetz and Thoralf Island.
