Drew engages with a challenge/offer/bet from Tyler Vela of the Freed Thinker Podcast on Twitter. Vela offered $100 if Drew could accurately engage with his (and other Calvinists') view on Ephesians 1 and Election!! It’s almost as if it’s super easy to understand their views.

I think non-calvinists actually understand the view better, which leads us out of it, but then our superior knowledge of the view makes us appear as though we don’t really understand the calvinist as they continue to wrestle with buzz words and context.

I think you can tell most people’s theology convictions based on where they stay in the text. But a fair point!

When I was a Calvinist the time argument would immediately get filled into “God is outside of time”. But now looking back on it I see now how this argument makes sense when BTF asked if you were the elect before your birth why were you not born like John The Baptist? I’m sure the order 66 argument could be made but when elect = faithful in Christ you have a problem on your hands.

4:40 Calvinists contend they are saved ...without believing anything. Hmmmm I haven't found a scripture to confirm that's how salvation works. Believing always comes first...full stop. God saves those who believe, some will, some will not, anyone can.
The verse establishing Total Depravity=Total Inability FROM BIRTH is the Calvinist 'missing link', it doesn't exist.
Yet they've built their entire doctrine on that assumption. Without the "T" the "ULIP" vaporizes.

A bit confused about why Vella is thinking too highly of himself if he's being shown grace prior to coming to faith and repentance, isn't that the logic of Romans 5 and elsewhere, that Christ, while we were still sinners, died for us?

Easy....
First make the claim that "in Him" really means "to be in Him".
Then just add the word salvation to the text where it doesn't exist and claim that adoption, inheritance, holy and without blame, etc really mean salvation.

See how easy that was?

Drew, I went back to your original podcast on Ephesians 1 (June 7). You and Eric make a big thing about being sure to include v.1-2 in the interpretation. Fine. You also say to follow the pronouns - especially the plural pronouns that you assign exclusively to the 'first generation' converts. Fine again. But, from what I can tell the first plural pronouns 'YOU' (third person plural) and 'OUR' (second person plural) are in v.2 "Grace to you and peace from God OUR Father and the Lord Jesus Christ". Are you implying that the 'OUR' in this verse refers ONLY to first generation converts? After all, it's the origin of the plural object being referenced. And furthermore, do you think that the people referred to by the third person plural pronoun 'YOU' in v.2 are NOT included in the 'OUR' in v.2? In the OUR in v.2 Paul simply includes himself and his entourage to the Ephesians believers referred to in v.1 as 'YOU.' How is the 'US' in v.3 a different object from the 'OUR' in v.2? (CAPs for emphasis only)
