Is this the most important component in the modern smart home? I'm not sure if I can commit to that, but it is certainly important, it's also cheap and easy to install, and will make creating automations a breeze. We are going to check out the humble reed switch, how they work, install one and make some automations in Home Assistant using some on the great new features released in version 0.113 including run mode, chooser and repeat features all through the GUI.
This is part 1 of 2 and includes the following helpful information(i hope)
00:55 - Reed switches in a Garage Door setup connected to a Sonoff SV
01:52 - Exactly how reed switches work including series operation
05:07 - What they are connected too that makes them useful
08:37 - 5 cents on wireless reed switches
10:00 - Installation of a reed switch in a standard door frame
10:37 - A safe DIY project
16:03 - Connecting the sensor to a QuinLED board because of connivence
18:00 - Very good tip for Tradies x 2....... Wait for it
19:25 - Setup the new magnetic reed switch as an sensor in ESPhome
24:10- Everyone struggles some times, it's those question marks!!!

PART 2 - Contains the Home Assistant Automations related to Magnetic Reed Switches

Thanks for watching!!!
I appreciate all your support and comments!!

BTW
The soldering iron is new and for AU$45 really good value and it works really good, so far the power supply it came with is not so good so you might need to get a better one, it is the KSGER T12 Soldering Station.

I’m making an input switching device for my retro gaming consoles. It’s supposed to eventually have tape-deck style buttons, for the retro vibes. But with those you should be able to press one and whatever was pressed last release mechanically.

But I don’t have the time right now to design up the mechanical portion, so I’m going extra retro, all the way back to the Abacus. Sliding magnet along an array of reed switches.

Just a note to say this is the only video ive found that helped me wire a simple reed magnetic switch and config in esphome as my very first project without confusing the hell out of me . You wouldnt believe how confusing some of the beginners guides are. !

Great video, really enjoyed the clean cabling work. For those of us that never completed an apprenticeship, it can take a while to learn some of the shortcuts.

Great video, thank you.
Saw you have Sonoff SV to control your garage door. Seem you use the GPIO4 (purple wires) & 14 (green wires) for the Reed Switches. Wonder you have video for it. Thank you.

I got tipped your video on my Discord server, nice video, awesome shout of the for the QuinLED boards, it seems you are using it for everything all in one (Lights, switch and temp sensor), that's awesome! And indeed exactly why I included the GPIO pins. :D

Could you use scotch locks to join the cords please? Not as best but it will be hidden in the roof space and I don’t have a soldiering iron. Thanks.
