That's not a forklift accident. That's a Bonehead Truckers accident. Hope everybody is okay.

I drove forklifts 15 years and Semis 25 years. That Truck Driver is lucky the forklift driver isn’t dead.

Your title is wrong. This is a truck accident. It’s obviously the the truck drivers fault.

I used to work at a warehouse and we had a rule that the truck driver had to come inside while we unload them. Some drivers refused to, and I would refuse to unload them. Then some moron coworkers would make fun of me for being scared and they unloaded him. I also was walking inside of a trailer once while the driver took off, I had to jump back onto the loading dock. It's no joke.

Forklift operator jumping out sent chills down my spine. He's lucky the lift didn't fall faster or this video would be on LiveLeak.

Jumping out the side where it is leaning is how people get crushed by the overhead guard. This guy was lucky.

This is why so many warehouses require either the trailer to be dropped or some sort of wheel chock system to be used before any unloading happens. Missed communications can sometimes lead to this sort of thing.

Given how hard the forklift was banging those pallets onto the truck, I'm surprised the truck driver didn't notice it.

I worked a side-job in transport during my university years. Loading flight containers for DHL at my local airport. In my 6 years there, I saw one guy lose a finger, another guy got his foot crushed under a 1500 kilo pallet, and another one broke two ribs when he got trapped between two containers as a forklift started moving them without checking first. That not counting all the numerous small injuries (box cutters!!) and lucky near-misses. It's a dangerous business, especially when your colleagues are all jaded and overworked.

I've driven lift trucks for over 20 years and taught courses on them for at least 10 of those. The one thing drummed into our heads from day 1 is always wear your seatbelt and ALWAYS brace forward and stay with the cab in the event of a tipover (the seatbelt would have prevented that highly risky escape maneuver shown).
Other factors here, the driver should NEVER be in the cab while unloading under any circumstances, engine off, air brakes on and wheel chocks applied. I've followed all these instructions to the letter and have yet to have any major incidents occur. A few dropped pallets (mostly from cracked cross members) is all I can attest to.

Stay on! Use seatbelt and hold on to steering wheel. That was extremely dangerous!

This is why you have the driver disconnect his air hose and put a lock on the fitting.

I'd say it's safe to assume the truck driver lost his job

As a truck driver, how you pull off without first checking both mirrors is completely beyond me..

Loading dock accidents are more common than you think. We had a few incidents at work to the point that the dispatcher wasn't supposed to hand the drivers the invoice till after he checked that all was secure. I had one driver pull away from the dock just as I was going into the trailer with the lift. One more foot and I would have been in serious hurt. Dispatcher gave him the papers before I was half way done. Was told to be sure the load was finished but didn't ask before he tried to leave. the load that wasn't secured yet rolled out the back on the ground behind the truck before he stopped. In the industry you always have to deal with green drivers that are clue less and dangerous, and sometimes really stupid lift operators at these big box stores when you deliver. Heck, one night when we were super busy, one of our managers thought he would help out. Messed up the loads something awful. Then he didn't put any cargo straps on the load. Should have several in the trailer to keep those wheeled carts secure. Driver grabs the paper work and takes off without checking the load. The entire load of the 53 ft trailer rolled out the back door when the truck pulled out! lucky no one was hurt, did destroy the load and required a crew hours to clean it up. We sent the fellow back to his office and told him to stay there!

Supposed to grab the steering wheel and lean to the high side, but that is way easier said than done. He got lucky for sure.

That’s 100% on the trucker. It was also pretty ballsy for the forklift operator to bail in the middle of the fall. I’ve heard stories where those haven’t ended well. It’s the way I was trained on one as well.

Truck driver said "alright, you've taken long enough. I'm out" not funny, but damn!

No rear view mirror check? Quick walk around to make sure all is in order? Stupidity, loss of job and accidental manslaughter charges.

There is no way that the truck driver did NOT know what was going on, in the cab you can feel that plain as day even if you aren't watching on the mirrors.
