One of the best versions of this beautiful gentle piece by Bach. We must remember that these pieces were not composed for the piano and thus an interpretation has to take into account the instrument that is being played. Bach's music has been played on many different instruments and also with different arrangements; it doesn't take away from the music as long as it is played with passion and respect.
On the subject of ornaments they were quite often used to make the notes have more presence and sustain as the harpsichord has a quick decay, something the piano doesn't suffer as much from and certainly if arranged for the violin for example, sustain isn't a problem. The piece was played with a naturally flowing dynamics and from the heart which is all that matters. Well done.

I used to play it without pedal, and then I tried to add pedal and it sounds so much better. Thank you for playing it with pedal!

I’m working on this because of this version. I’m an intermediate player, and will not be able to play at this level, but it’s a nice motivation.

I like it. Bach may have written in some ornamentation but it is clear from Bach's time that people were expected to improvise a little when playing, and removing ornaments is a new and interesting way of looking at this piece. More people should be willing to play their own way like you do.

This is the first time I've heard someone play the Clavier-Buchlein version, thank you! I was shocked at first by the use of pedal, but then I got used to it and rather enjoyed hearing the harmonies play together.


I'm working on this piece and am befuddled by the weak and abrupt ending to an otherwise lovely piece. I see you just embraced it. What thoughts took you to this decision?
