Video #13 Fishbowl

The Fishbowl method features two students having a conversation in the Inner Circle of a Fishbowl. At the same time, the rest of the class (in the Outer Circle) is observing the conversation and evaluating the quality based on a rubric. Afterwards, the class will debrief and discuss their observations. This strategy teachs social skills and it helps you teach the various skills of good conversation.

Please slow down when you are talking. I had to watch several times to understand your very good information. Thanks so much!

I recommend clicking on the gear icon in the lower right corner of the video which is used to adjust the settings. Choose .75 for the speed. Otherwise this guy is almost incomprehensible.

How do you ensure that students aren't hovering to tap in or race to the middle of the circle? I am struggling with this with my 6th graders.

Can teachers stop doing such stuff? It’s unproductive and redundant. It’s anxiety inducing and non conducive for introverts

This method is bad in my opinion. It does help with social skills and just ends up giving tons of anxiety especially today students just laugh when watching from the outer circle it’s impossible to focus and have a good conversation and it feels so unnatural to me.

Agree slow down. I see your suggestion to watch again, but if you're an educator you should be more receptive to feedback. Maybe you should slow down a little bit? I can't understand you....will go elsewhere.
