This whole interview was embarrassing. It was basically Barnes with the biggest chip on his shoulder basically castigating the whole of society, but particularly football, with being racist. Thankfully Simon Jordan is significantly more intelligent and held him to account on most of the rubbish he was spouting. Barnes continued to use the word ‘perception’ which is a kop out because he is effectively trying to tell you what you are thinking which fits much better with his narrative. The issue that continually frustrates me is black Managers not getting jobs. If there was a Manager out there that could win me the Premiership, like the vast majority of fans I wouldn’t give a toss if he was white, black or sky blue. Over 50% of our teams squad are black and they are selected because they are deemed the best for the job. Is he seriously telling me that if the black Manager was deemed best to win us the league he wouldn’t be employed because he was black…? Absolute nonsense. And if it’s not then give us examples….not perceptions. Give me 5 examples of where a black Manager was clearly the better candidate for a job he actually applied for and was looked over in favour of a white Manager with lesser credentials. He’ll struggle to find one.
