On Monday, April 16, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in the Media Gallery at Toronto Police Headquarters, Homicide Detective Sergeant Hank Idsinga updated the media on the Bruce McArthur investigation.
Since January 2018, Bruce McArthur, 66, of Toronto, has been charged with seven counts of First-Degree Murder.
It is alleged that he is responsible for the deaths of:
1) Selim Esen
2) Andrew Kinsman
3) Majeed Kayhan
4) Dean Lisowick
5) Soroush Mahmudi
6) Skandaraj Navaratnam
7) Abdulbasir Faizi
On March 5, and again on April 9, 2018, police released a photograph of a deceased man. On April 12, 2018, police identified the man as Kirushna Kumar Kanagaratnam, of Toronto.
On April 16, 2018, an eighth charge of First Degree Murder was laid against Bruce McArthur in relation to the death of Mr. Kanagaratnam.
Since February 2018, Toronto Police have been working in partnership with the Centre of Forensic Studies to identify the remains of at least seven bodies. Through various means, the following individuals have been identified:
1) Andrew Kinsman
2) Soroush Mahmudi
3) Skandaraj Navaratnam
4) Selim Esen
5) Abdulbasir Faizi
6) Dean Lisowick
7) Kirushna Kumar Kanagaratnam
To date, the remains of Majeed Kayhan have never been identified.
The Toronto Police Service has created an information pamphlet for the community. Hard copies can be requested by calling LGBTQ Liaison Officer Constable Danielle Bottineau at 416-808-7263.
