Nope. This invention was made by a woman (Catherine Greene) and slaves (who had hands-on knowledge of the materials). And since women and slaves couldn’t hold patents, Whitney put it under his name. This knowledge goes back to at least the 1980s. Why is this lie about it being Whitney’s invention continuing into the 21st century?

In its wake, this invention would go on to destroy the FABRIC of so many families. To me it is also a symbol of destruction. I wonder if his family has ever thought of his role in this destruction and whether or not they should pay some sort of reparations to all those affected.

+Lennie Fryer Jr: Thanks for unnecessarily linking this child's demonstration to your racial cause. Anyway, factually, you're absolutely incorrect: the first gins were used in India and other countries since approximately 500 AD.
Eli Whitney didn't "take credit" in the unmistakable manner you suggest, either. His was an improved version of machines that had been used for many years from a variety of "inventors", and was therefore granted a patent. FACTS will always help your arguments, Lennie.
