How to Grow Cilantro in the Hot Summer Months - Square Foot Gardening

I'm growing cilantro in the square foot garden this year. In summer or any hot weather it can bolt (flower early).

The flower is tall and beautiful. However, the leaves get a very soapy flavor too. So, I've been saving seed from the some of the plants and putting down large batches of seed. The baby cilantro tastes great and can be harvested all summer long. Eventually these plants will bolt and it will be time to plant some more batches.

I am from Phoenix Arizona, and I can confirm this man is a wizard. Not even weeds do well in the summer here..

My cilantro reseaded from last year. I've got it everywhere now and I've grown to like it.

I never have fresh cilantro when my tomatoes are ripened because the cilantro has bolted. But this season I have some growing in the Kratky method you taught me, and, I will now have some growing in the garden when the tomatoes are ripe. Fresh salsa is not salsa without cilantro. Great info. Thanks.

Found some old slow-bolt cilantro seed, did a direct sow and it germinated nicely. It’s holding its own and ready for harvesting a bit. I started some more seeds last week so I’ll have some more when this batch eventually bolts.

Wow that might explain my problem, this happens to mine every year. It's really been pissing me off too. All my other herbs are doing just fine.

Need some advice. Now want to plant some coriander seeds. Want to do a square foot garden. Do I plant the seeds in a cluster and later transplant to grow in the square garden four inches apart or plant the seeds direct at 4 inches spacing. Will need to get some seeds for sale later.

I’ve been growing an herb garden from fridge leftovers. I’ve done very successfully, mint, basil, chives, scallions, thyme etc. cilantro is just wilted. It perks up a little during the day and then gets all sad again. I’m unsure if it’s too wet, not enough, too much sun, not enough ... the rest are doing great after just a few weeks ... I live in Santa Barbara. It is always sunny. Always about 70-75 in summer. A few hotter days but Can’t figure it out. Maybe it’s out of my hands ...

to bad the slug destroyed my cilantro seedling, they didn't have a chance to grow because of the slugs, how I dislike slugs. I would like to try but I have giving up on growing cilantro, that I just buy cilantro from the store.
