You got it almost right for the version I was taking tho. my first question was a perfectly competitive side by side graph. second question was about a single price monopolost. third question was about negative consumer externalities for buying smoke detectors.

Hello Jacob. There is an FRQ Unit 2 question in the Question Bank of AP Classroom that asks: "After the per-unit tax, will the price paid by consumers increasy by the same amount as the tax? Explain"

One student answered that the price paid by consumers will increase by LESS than the tax because the $ per-unit tax is more than the extra amount tha the consumers have to pay, and she showed graphically how the tax was the difference between the two curves and how the extra price consumers paid was the difference between the previous equilibrium price and the after-tax price, which is less than the tax value.

I thought that she explained it completely. However, when talking to a co-teacher, he said that the answer key says "The response states that the price will increase by less than the amount of the tax and explains that, unless demand is perfectly inelastic, producers will not be able to raise price by the amount of the tax." And that her justification is not acceptable because does not match the answer key.
However she did justify and explain in a correct manner, just in a different way than the answer key.

What are your thoughts? Should the student get the points or should lose the points because didn't explain in the exact way of the answerkey?
