My financial advisor said I am spending substantially less than I can in retirement. So for the first time in my life I am buying a new vehicle. But I agree that if for some reason the vehicle was ruined, I would still have a place to live and food to eat.

Yeah but if you're financially irresponsible and used to just wasting money, how do you still know if you can afford it or not? Would I want to burn 5k dollars, no, but would it really matter? At my age no I have 40+ years to work and make it back. People spend 50k to 100k on a degree they don't use, obviously that sets them back but they usually get over it if they work on it. If you inherited 100k dollars you could just burn it and then pretend it never existed, technically not setting yourself back past the point of when you inherited it.
