Dr. Joe Bernal Dedication Tribute

At the start of the 2014-2015 school year, Northside ISD opened its newest middle school, Bernal Middle School. The school is named for Dr. Joe J. Bernal, a former state senator representing San Antonio. He also served as member of the State Board of Education. Before he became an elected official, Bernal worked as a school teacher and school administrator. He is credited for authoring the first Texas bilingual education act as a state Senator in 1969.
