Is this a test you would use to check your engine?

There's only a few things that I know for certain, but one of them is that that's not how you test for engine compression.

This is only the test to see if you forgot the piston rings... you can't tell much else from this.

That's no special piece of paper that's just the packaging the piston rings come in.

That’s the empty bag for the piston rings. This isn’t really a compression test but it does tell you the piston rings have been installed.

That just tells you if the rings are sealing, better than nothing!

This test is done to see if your piston rings are staggared. The reason is that you have most of the engine apart still, and you can easily fix the problem before installing the rest of the motor. When completed, you install the rest of the motor parts and complete your compressikn testing.

You better go ahead and replace the pistons. See how the piston tops are melted out? That's from the injector spray pattern.

all that tells you is that the rings have some kind of seal and compression but you still dont even know if its full compression without the head on it

"How much compression are you running?"
"1 plastic sheet pop"

I’m also one of the other 200 people commenting on here who read comments in another YT video about this same thing who is here to inform you this isn’t how to test for compression and only lets you know the rings were installed. I also want to sound like I’m engine savvy like everyone else, but don’t know anything more than the comment I recycled.

Good Ole c13 I build quite a few of those engines for 2 years

Thats not a special sheet of paper, its the packaging in wich youll recieve your piston rings. Also they used IPD rings for the rebuild on that c11/c13 CAT engine. I hope the liners used in this rebuild is also IPD brand.

So if you don't get any suction or a pop then you shouldn't put anything else on and you should re-look at what you actually have. The main reason why is because if you don't have the pop or the suction you won't have compression at all. If it can't even do that then you shouldn't keep going putting the engine together because if you do it's not going to have any kind of compression if it can't do something as simple as that what you also don't understand is later on they also test the compression

Being I just retired after a 45 year career as a diesel mechanic/maritime vessel engineer, I'd like to think I'm fairly experienced in the field of engine troubleshooting/rebuilding and other sundry tasks involved in that industry and so did the the US Coast Guard when, after so many documented hours at sea, they issued me a license as Chief Engineer capable of doing my job adequately enough to responsibly handle the duties required upon any vessel at sea with no limit on horsepower so when i see men doing this test that's as old as the reciprocating internal combustion engine itself, I know that its neither a compression nor a vacuum test but it is a fairly accurate gauge of proper compression ring installation. But I, like many others have mentioned here, hold no faith in the skills of a man willing to work on an engine in the dirt while using antiquated tools, antiquated methods and also choose to work in this field alongside heavy parts, molten slag and flying chips of razor sharp steel all while wearing the best in open toed sandals and without ear or eye protection and also find it ok to use children as so much slave labor and dont see fit to make them wear proper safety gear either. Theres a lot of praise being heaped upon these primitive cultures for their ingenuity and abilities but let me ask you this...
Have you seen any videos of irate customer comebacks from the region? No you have not but you notice their shops are always busy, don't you. And have you ever held or fired a gun made in the same region? Those who have, like me, know not to buy one. Handcrafted pieces of self destruction and questionable tolerances.

Just a piece of paper is all most times tracing paper is used and it pops a hole in the paper. If you hone it and install rings correctly indexed it’ll be fine and pop the paper.

I've lost count of how many engines I've rebuilt in 40 yrs and I've never forgotten to properly install rings much less forgot to install the rings all together. Oh and BTW, rings never stay where you put them...they rotate around the piston after you run it.

This is to test engine vacuum on the intake stroke. The suction is what’s making the paper go down

If the piston ring bag is empty and they are not on the floor feel free to pop the bag on the bores….

No special paper 😂😂 its the wraping the rings comes in 😂😂

Top of number two has been melted by the injector you can see the spray pattern melted into the top of it I think there's a couple other ones like that too
