For people already suffering just thinking about it, it gets more complicated. The Thai alphabet is split into 3 groups. For each of the groups, the different tonal symbols indicate different tones. For one letter, a certain tonal symbol may mean a high tone, while for a different letter, the same tonal symbol means a low tone. Crying.

Im half thai and despite being able to learn Spanish, Russian, Ukranian, Japanes etc...i cant learn thai. I literally studied it weekly sessions for three years and all i can say is hello, thank you, and how are you 🤦
