SPOILER ALERT! This wasn't quite bad enough for me to describe it as dreadful, but it is far too contrived and hopelessly cliched to be considered anything other than mediocre, with "fairly poor" being a reasonable assessment. There's the "innocent woman burnt as a witch who curses everyone" back-story, followed by the "vengeful spirit who seeks the souls of children" element, leading to the inevitable showdown at the end, and (lest we forget it), the "final twist" as the credits roll. It's entertaining, provided that you don't try to think about the holes in the plot. The writing isn't at all tight, and none of it seems to hang together very well. The emotional reunion at the end of the movie was nothing short of a damp squib. There were times, during the movie, when I could sense that even Cage hadn't given up trying, which was surprising, because you'd have thought that, with all the dreadful movies that he's been in, you'd have thought that he'd be able to waltz through this mini-disaster of a movie. 3/10, for me.
