Danish guy here, and sure it's important to figure out if Donald is serious about any of his threats. However the damage done toward one of US longest running allies by the Trump Jr. Stunt of visiting Greenland and the threats made by Donald himself has enraged the Danes and shown the rest of Europe and the other NATO members that loyalty means nothing. In his last term most of us here in Europe was laughing a bit of some of the crazy stuff that went on, but we tolerated it. This time he hadn't even set foot in the White house, and people here in Denmark are calling for boycut of American products. Whatever happens, the damage done toward your so called allies are immense

Any leader making threats like this needs to be taken seriously AS A BASIC PRECAUTION so in the event that he DOES...you don't get caught unawares. And one way or the other, Emma laid out the reasons why Trump's backers and allies will want to go through with this with or without him. We can afford to be wrong, we CAN'T afford to be right.

I cannot imagine how anxious Greenlanders and Panamanians are who are more likely to be Indigenous or Latin. He is such an awful threat.

I am from Denmark and I can tell you that this Greenland threat has spawned a lowkey crises in Denmark. In Europe, there is a legit distancing from the US, cause you guys seems more and more crazy by every day that goes by... I honest to god hope, that America as a nation get's less power in the world, cause Europe simply can't afford the fact, that a "so-called" free nation votes for a president that is willing to antagonize and intimidate it's allies.

A couple of things:

1) You guys as americans have to understand (and some of you already does), that even though you guys have carried a heavy burden for Europe in terms of protecting us, it has also created a power dynamic, that makes us as europeans do legit anything for you! From going into every single stupid war (even the obvious illegal ones) to imitating whatever you guys say, for example when Biden supports Isreal so mutch in it's genocide, most european countries just passively watches and does nothing, cause America said so. We take the refugees form the middle east, even though most of them are refugees spawned by American destablization of the middle east, and we ask 0 questions about it in the process. Our foreign minister legit bows down to Trump with his statements. Even the Danish primeminister tones down what Trump says and follows up with "America is our most important allies". You might be our most important ally, but you're simultaneously our "worst ally"...

2) Can we stop talking about "buying" Greenland or talking about how Denmark "owns" Greenland.... Greenland is not a complete sovereign country, and it's imposible to explain in a youtube comment how the Danish "commonwealth" works, but I can tell you we don't "own" Greenland, and Greenland is not an estate! It's a country, with real people, and a rich culture, that has already been supressed and colonized by Denmark, and for my money, Denmark still has a "post-colony" type of relationship with Greenland, and we're still not treating Greenland well. But America makes us danes look like saints... America has a history of misstreating original people like legit trash... Even none white people in America is getting treated like second rank citizens, so ain't no way the Greenlanders will get treated well by you guys... So can we start talking more about the impact on the people of Greenland, and be honest about how american still lowkey thinks it's okay to colonize the world.... JEEZ!

3) One last thing... This shit has 0.... and I really mean 0 to do with National security, this is about ressources and notning else! Denmark and indirectly Greenland therefore also, is a part of NATO, this means that all Trump has to do is make a call and Denmark will give them access to build more bases! Cause as I explained before... Denmark will do almost anything for America, but Trump wanting to buy or take Greenland is not about building bases, it's about money and minirals.

Sorry for the rant... but this had to come out. I hope America change, but I stopped counting on it...

I think all these US platforms talking about "Should we take it seriously" should understand that Europe aren't laughing. Not one bit. The damage caused by these threats is irreparable. I am in the UK and it is clear that "the special relationship" is over. We must now move to defend ourselves from the US. A sad turn of events.

Yes his rhetoric sounds a lot like the current Imperialist threatening Europe who sounds a lot like the previous Imperialist who threatened Europe etc etc. We cannot go a millennium without one popping up somewhere to cause problems. The US was not expected though, we were all looking in another direction. It does complicate things if the US decides to throw its hat into the ring.
I think trump feels a bit left out of the fight for the ultimate strong man.
