From September to December, 2021, I dedicated much of my free time and attention in film toward experimenting with light and traditional methods of cinematic lighting.
Here, in the first of a series of short lighting tests that I undertook in an attempt to replicate the look and feel of iconic frames from classic films and pieces of art, I set out to recreate Vittorio Storaro's high contrast, shadow heavy cinematography from Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now.

I love that this style inspires you. What I think is that you re close enough. You re a bit softer on light, if you want to realy replicate it, you have to go with harsher light. If you put farther away your light you ll achieve it. Of course you ll need higher iso. Modern movies have softer light than the old ones. Many softboxes and panels. The old movies used very harsh light. I m a fan of film noir and old horror movies. Maybe thats why old horror movies were so scary. Shadows were harsh. More dramatic.
