Harvesting and Storing Cabbages....and Interesting Observations!

It is that time of the year again when we harvest our cabbages for storage in the cellar. We have had challenges growing cabbage due to disease and pest pressure. Diseases like clubroot, which we have, can ruin a crop early in the season and playing catch up is not possible in our short season. SO choosing resistant varieties is a must. This year we grew, Lodero (red cabbage) and Report (green cabbage). Both performed will with no indication of clubroot. This is a real win. Some interesting observations on the red variety include complete resistance to slug damage. There was zero damage from slugs! The green variety sitting next to them was decimated...but luckily they're large and dense so easy to get rid of the damage by pealing layers.

Enjoy!
