Meet Ben VanSumeren, Michigan football's better-late-than-never signee

ESSEXVILLE, MI – Ben VanSumeren has been a Michigan football fan since he was old enough to scream “Go Blue!” at the Big House.But he won’t deny that the Wolverines were letting him down during his recruitment process.“I was upset that I hadn’t heard from them, and I let them know that,” said VanSumeren, the record-setting receiver from Essexville Garber.“But I got over it as soon as I got on campus.” Just six days before he was to sign his letter of intent to the University of Iowa, VanSumeren’s favorite college football team finally came calling.It was better late than never.VanSumeren was offered a scholarship from University of Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh on Dec.14, took his official visit to the Ann Arbor campus on Dec.15 and officially signed with the Wolverines today during the NCAA’s early signing period.
