Use a Parameter as a Filter in Tableau

You'll need to create a calculated field that references the parameter.
Than, you can use the calculated field on the filter shelf.

What if you want to also have an option that is the whole map? I imagine you would have to do something in the calculated field. I've been struggling to figure it out

Hi, Really enjoy your videos, just short, sweet, and to the point. I do have a question thou, though I have created a parameter so I can view my data by financial years or calendar years. I have 4 years in total but want to include only the last 2 years in the dashboard. I tried putting my calculated field into the filter section of the worksheet, but this does not keep the filtering options (it always clears this filtering). I have followed this video but because the data type within my parameter is set to "float" it brings up an error when trying to implement it into a calculated field. Is there a way around this? I did try and change my data type within the parameter to string but this didn't work.

Hi, when I move the calculated field into the filters, I am not getting the True option to select. I see only two options there: Null and False.
Could you help?

Why not just use State as a filter? Why use a parameter?
