This is my husband's account. He passed away in March from cancer. Our son was born december 25th. Our song was thinking out loud. I was singing it to him in the last minutes. Thank you Ed for baring your soul in this album. It has helped me in my darkest moments through the grief. Days are long but they pass in an instant. Exactly How it was. The worry non stop man this song hits eyes closed was the first song I heard a few days after I lost him. Thank you for this and Thinking out Loud .. . He was an amazing human and I miss him so much.

I see it as they're struggling to choose what's better for their daughter as the world feels heavy and everything seems crazy. My sister is named Vega, she has cranial facial dysplasia and isn’t able to develop past a 4th grade level despite being 23. This song actually made my parents cry because it reminded them of when she was first born. It makes it worse because this song was released right around the time we found out she needs facial reconstruction surgery and we have no idea how we’re going to pay for it. Thank you for giving my family a vice and a signal to keep going because it’s been rough for a long time and we’re only just getting started.

This album was released in the middle of my treatment for Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin's Burkitt's Lymphoma. Burkitt's is extremely aggressive and my Chemo was extremely aggressive. I was in the hospital for the better part of 4 months. Vega is the first song I heard from the new album. 2023 has been tough and virtually every song on Subtract impacted me deeply. I watched the Disney+ documentary 2 weeks after my 44 year old brother died of ALS. I am so glad Ed was vulnerable and shared this music with the world. Subtract was the first full album I've purchased in years.
