The Next Gen Console War is Over, and PS5 Just Won

Given the recent turn events I truly believe that the next gen console war is over, and PS5 just won. The Redfall 30 fps controversy is just one more disappointment for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Game Pass games in a long series of disappointments. And with brand new Final Fantasy 16 gameplay and the Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores gameplay, it is no undeniable that Sony isn't just winning, they have won.

The latest Sony State of Play showcased 20 minutes of new gameplay from Final Fantasy XVI and was basically a FF16 state of play. The gameplay was more than impressive. On the same day we had brand new gameplay from the HFW DLC Burning Shores which featured improved combat, fluidity, and draw distance. And now nobody even knows if Starfield 30fps or Starfield 60fps will be a thing. The confidence in Xbox and the lack of solid next gen first party titles is hurting sales, and likely hurting the future of this console generation.

One thing I've realized from this generation of consoles is the fact that for Sony games we are all like "man, I can't wait to see how good it looks." And for Xbox it's more like "I hope we can at least get 60 fps."

They need to remove the Series S requirement for developers. It doesn’t matter how powerful the X is if devs can’t take advantage of it. The fact that Square Enix was willing to make their next mainline Final Fantasy game exclusive to PS5 will open the door for other big devs to follow suit.

Yes I agree. I was an Xbox gamer up until Redfall fiasco and realized that Microsoft doesn’t CARE at all about console rather they care for PC as their main focus for the future of Microsoft gaming. Look at Ghostwire Tokyo performance. Embarrassing!!! I’m done with Xbox and moving on with Sony who truly cares for console gaming. I was drinking the Xbox cool aid but no more. I’m Done!

The console war is made up by fanboys who tie their console choice to their identity. There has never really been a war. Playstation has always outsold Xbox. However as a Playstation owner I've always wanted an Xbox just so I could play gears of War. That franchise was top tier. I remember when Sony came out with resistance it seemed similar to gears but it was absolutely awful. For a long time Xbox players didn't have baseball games which I felt was bs. Sports games should be on all consoles.

I guess my point is the console war nonsense just lives rent free in some players heads.

Mark Cerny obsessing over the development of games and designing the PS5 with that in mind is really starting to show. Xbox X may well be more powerful or even ‘better’ if we want to play that game, but along with the S version it’s clearly making development difficult. Cerny spoke to developers. He knew what he was doing.

I have a Series X and a PS5 but I’m on my PS5 significantly more because the games I want on Xbox are nowhere to be seen. Senua the Fable reboot and Avowed are as far as I can tell nowhere close to release and Final Fantasy 16 is my most hyped game of the year next to Stellar Blade both of which look absolutely incredible from what we’ve seen! Sony is undeniably absolutely killing it this generation.
