I feel like one of the scarier things in the Violence District is one encounter of a woman standing next to the street. She's just there alone under a street lamp, minding her own business. She seems like the only living person in the place so you go up to her, seemingly a light in the darkness. Then its revealed to be a ruse, the woman's head just popping off as she speedily approaches. This, whatever it is, then catches you, ending your dream and putting it into the lower downers as if your character woke up from a horrible nightmare.

Wow talk about a blast from the past. Back in 2009, I stumbled across a small channel called Mikennemonic and his play through got me into the lore. I always wanted to give LSD a try but I could never figure out how to run Japanese ROMs. Now that there's a tutorial, I might give it another go for nostalgia.

Yooo!!! Finally!
I love LSD!
I always found LSD: Dream Emulator as an game that was different from others, it is mysterious, it has some scary and dark secrets, and it has Violence District.

According to the Wiki page, most emulators can't render the water correctly. If you do decide to make more videos on this, it seems like the "DuckStation" emulator renders it correctly.

Oh my god, YES! I always wanted to see more LSD:DE videos from you, thank you so much for making this video! :D

I've actually been typing out my dreams lately in a word document as soon as I wake up from one. Reading some of them back can be an extremely weird experience, especially if it's a dream I've progressively forgotten over the span of the day.

Something about the dark figure is extremely unnerving. Just the chance to spawn in anywhere at any time at a rare chance. everything in the game is surreal and facinating and oddly chill. Until you see the shrouded figure and you realise you are not safe here, they are stalking you wherever you go. and the scary thing is that its only sometimes spawned in which induces paranoia

LSD Dream Emulator is a game so ahead of its time, that its time still hasn't actually arrived yet

If you haven’t already played it, Yume Nikki would be a good game to check out. It would be a bit different from your usual stuff since it’s 2d, not first person, but in its presentation and themes it’s definitely right up your alley. (It’s also free to play!)

Back in 99 a guy I know picked this up at a local Japanese pop culture store near where we went to school. A local club, where we were regulars, would allow people to play stuff on their projection screen. On trance and experimental Electronica nights they would let us play this on their screen.

Good times.

You have some of the most enticing, insightful commentary out of practically anyone else doing this type of thing on YouTube. Please never stop making videos <3

I love this kind of videos. Please also like a part 2&3! It just gives me good vibes. I love liminal stuff like this. Would love to hear more dreamcore/weirdcore too!

I just thought of this and it makes so much sense. When you see a liminal space image and feel weird or nostalgic it happens cause you are seeing a memory just not your own memory but a memory many people have had. Each person had seen the same thing but aren’t the same exact thing. Like a memory that isn’t your own

You have no idea how excited I was when I saw this in my feed. I've got plenty of fond memories watching people play this 9-10 years ago, simpler times.

Yes love this game so much! Really hope you do some more videos on it given how due to its RNG style random nature its always different and unique every time you play it. Can often get pretty spooky and strange too, very much an early lineal game

If you want more games like LSD Dream Emulator, and specifically more games based on the creators' dreams like you said in the video, you should check out the LSDJAM 2020 and 2021 over on itch. They've got a bunch of cool stuff inspired by LSD Dream Emulator, and some were indeed made off of their makers' dreams. I've actually covered a ton of the games from both years on my channel, so if you'd like I could also recommend some of the best ones.

(Trying this one more time... Sorry for the multiple comments, I imagine you have link blocking turned on so my others weren't getting through.)

When he first entered the violence district i saw the street lamps and concrete floor and almost had a heart attack. I have this nightmare every once in awhile, its rare but when I do see it I immediately want to wake back up, its where I'm in an endless parking lot under a starless night sky with streetlamps dotting it, no cars, no building for the parking lot to lead up to, just an endless concrete hell. I always felt like I was being chased or watched, but no matter where I looked or how far into the dream I was I never saw anything, I could walk for miles and never see anything other than an endless ocean of concrete and streetlamps, it always devolves into me curling up on the ground and crying, when I wake up my face is soaked with tears and my hands are shaking like they're playing the maracas, but the strangest part about the dream is that I always forget about it until something shows up and makes me remember it or if I have it again, the second the violence district showed up the memories came flooding back.

I would LOVE to explore in a IRL dream the place at 15:50 ! This ambience, the moon, everything feels so unique but also soooo familiar.
That's weird, one of my dreams is now to dream, that's definetely weird

I am so excited to watch this! I have this game so much, it inspired so many creatives and indie games that exist now. It's rough, but that's because its the first of its kind. Thanks for playing it XD
