AUSTRALIAN CRAWL Downhearted

The 3rd single lifted from the multi platinum debut by Australian Crawl. Easily one of my favourite Aussie albums of all time, the music hit me just at the right time, as my adolescent angst found expression and imagination in the look and sound and lyrics of this spunky and young local band. They were everywhere in 1980, and rightly so. The catchy and distinctive style of the songs as well as the visual exposure they received on music programs, made them household names within releasing their first few singles. 'Downhearted' followed 'The Boys light up' and 'Beautiful People' into the single chart, and reached their highest point thus far; making #12 nationally and helping the album be one of the 10 best selling of 1980. 'The Boys Light Up' is filled with great songs and of course that eye catching cover and art work, made it an iconic LP in our pop culture. The band would follow it up and spend the next few years asking in glory, before divisions ended what could have been a long running stint as a major force in rock and roll.
