Some cheats are good. Save states or infinite lives make it so you can play through the story. Very old titles kept you playing purely through difficulty due to limited size.
Side note, I appreciate your struggles & triumphs, I appreciate ETA and you shouting him out. You guys do so much for these tech/gaming communities we apricate you.

Fun video, hope treatment keeps going well. I just picked up a Miyoo mini plus, threw onion OS on it and I am having a blast. Cheats arent cheats.. You are just using the toolset that is availbale to you, so you can complete that task ;). Its been so much fun that I am planing on getting a few more and making a few custom curated retro games for friends. I have been asking on the downlow what were the games they grew up playing.

I don't have that flip handheld, but the systems are really easy to switch between if they just need to be put on a SD card. So don't be afraid to get onion os or similar as you can easily just carry the SD card with you, and just switch between them on the fly.

on the last part, i cannot play a un-modded old game anymore, doom itself has over 20 variations of overhaul mods that make it just amazing, this summer finally i got through witcher 3 ultimate, i loved it, that was my third try, and i almost failed again, as its usually the SSD that dies for me with this particular game, almost for the third time.
i loaded up cheat engine right up after that scare and got through it! might've frustrated me to no end otherwise.
i might jump back into it but for now im playing Stalker GAMMA.
then again, i dont use handhelds, tablets or phones for games at all.

Get a Odin2, or a RP5 for sure. you'd greatly profit from its battery life and you can use winlator because of its power. can play all of GC and PS2 upscaled with almost 0 issues. (Theres always something you might not know doesn't work but 99% of things work flawlessly)

Skies of Arcadia for the Dreamcast or GameCube is a fun RPG. It looks better on the GameCube esp. dolphin emu

Infinite health is more game breaking than unlocking all characters. you literally cant die lol
but I understand what you're saying its great when you just want to get through the game.

Still have my metalic blue GBA SP (AGS-001) from childhood and enjoy playing games on it from time to time. For retro games, this is a great form factor too.

I try to use only the steamdeck for everything to shoot for minimalism but I do often have to also carry a laptop for convenience with work and game on my phone just for extreme portability.
