“Filthy” Secrets of Brothels in Versailles, France

Courtesans, coquettes, and coveted desires, Paris was dubbed the Brothel of Europe in the late 19th century for a reason. Brothels were at their peak in the latter half of the 19th century with around 200 legalized brothels and Maisons in the city. For centuries, French kings and aristocrats had kept courtesans and mistresses but the business really became booming when the palace of Versailles was constructed by the sun king and it was used as a house of pleasure by him and his descendants until the French Revolution happened.
What was it like to be a kept woman in Paris? How tough was it for a Madame to run a brothel? How did brothels play a part in the formation of the Vice Police Department?

I wasn't paying attention to the screen during the first few minutes of the video and swear I thought I heard "There was a time when nuns and cokeheads lived harmoniously..." and cracked up laughing. I decided to rewind it to make sure I heard the narrator correctly, only to be slightly disappointed to learn/hear what was actually said😂

Really interesting content, and I really like the "pop-up" information on the screen throughout the video.
One suggestion...it's a bit difficult to see the small font and to finish reading the rather lengthy sentences in the short amount of time they appear on the screen. I find myself pausing/rewinding the video an awful lot!
Ever heard of VH1's music video show "Pop-Up Video" from the 1990s? Maybe try something more akin to this! 🤔💬🙋‍♀️❤

Follow-up would be appreciated. Not sure _"filthy_ secrets" is an appropriate title here; maybe just "secrets." I was expecting a list of numerous STDs or details of all the dirt, rodents and molds that were commonplace.
