The most common injury cases that we handle here at the office are car accident cases, truck accident cases, and motorcycle cases.

Inevitably, every time an accident happens, there are large amounts of medical bills that need to be covered and if you have med-pay or medical payments coverage under your own car insurance policy, that is a good thing.

Why, and what is med-pay?

Med-pay is really not mandatory, so your car insurance agent does not have to add it to your car insurance policy when you purchase a policy. You have to ask for it. If your insurance agent is a really good one they will ask you to add it to your policy because it's really beneficial just in case an accident happens.

Medical payments coverage kicks in if you have medical bills that are related to your car accident.
It does not have to be anybody else's fault, you can hit a tree, and your med-pay coverage will still kick in and cover your medical bills.

The other benefit of med-pay coverage is that it'll start covering your medical bills right away. You don't have to wait until the end of the case to get those bills paid. As I talked in my previous videos, medical providers do not have to wait for you to settle your car accident case. They may send your bills to a collection agency and that may impact your credit score. Med-pay kicks in right away, so if you get a bill you can send it to your car insurer, or if you are represented by us we do it on your behalf, and it will get covered right away.

The other benefit is there's no deductible. All of the bills are going to get paid. If you do have private health insurance, you should obviously submit it through them first. Any deductible or co-pays would be covered through med-pay.

I have seen med-pay range from $1,000 to $100,000 and it is really not that expensive. I think a lot of my clients do have it, and it is usually minimal like a $1000, $2000, $5000, I've seen $25.000 policies.

They're great here in Missouri, so if you have it, great, if not, ask your agent to add it to your car insurance policy, because at the end of the day you know God forbid an accident happens. It may be a lifesaver when dealing with medical bills.
