Drone footage shows devastation in Turkey following TWO earthquakes in 24 hours

TODAY we launch the Sun Earthquake Appeal to help the response to the destruction and loss of life in Turkey and Syria.

Up to 10,000 are feared dead, with many including children trapped in the rubble, after two high-magnitude shocks.

All money raised will be donated to the British Red Cross for a major on-the-ground mobilisation.

Red Crescent staff are already distributing essentials such as food, water, blankets and temporary shelters to support survivors who spent the night outside in freezing temperatures.

Support is also being provided for traumatised people.

British Red Cross Chief Executive Mike Adamson said: “The scale of destruction caused by these earthquakes has been devastating.

last time that happened in china in 2008, the authorities just declared the whole city as a mass grave…
it was just 20 hours after the quake so there was plenty of survivors waiting for relief…
the site of the city is still left abandoned as a ‘ghost town’

It is so hard to think about those who must be trapped and hurt freezing with no food and the building are piles rather than completely flat there is room under it all and I can imagine there must have been a fairly large number of people who survived for at least a little while after the shaking stopped.

The towers had no external structure rigidity. One jolt and they all pancake. Concrete slabs need steel structures, surely this technology is well known in 2023? Didn't see a single steel beam in all this footage of pancaked hi-rises. Sad day for tens of thousands of victims, sad day for humanity when so many deaths could have been prevented with stronger building codes..

Apart special lifting, heavy lift helicopters can carry food and water and access areas and positions closed off from collapses. Estimate from the building count dropped said in one article, You could estimate would be a death toll of around 250, 000 to half a million.

It makes you wonder just how much trauma has been generated throughout all history due to natural disasters. One event alone, such as this, can easily cause PTSD for tens of thousands. It is also known that suicide rates may increase following a natural disaster. Not to mention all the grief and bereavement. =( RIP to the victims, and I wish peace for the survivors.
