Literally wrong title.
I bought a 2008 Saab 9-3 SportCombi with the 2.0t engine for 3300€ and that's the perfect car for me. Not everyone will like them but if you do, it's a great choice.

Reliable and tunable you can go for the lexus gs/ls/sc400 and the gs/is/sc300. You can only really get them under 5k with high miles but they still can make power at those high miles and be extremely reliable dailys whilst you save up the dough to build them, and the sc/gs400's are actually decently fast.

Bought a Pontiac Vibe for $1, 400 a couple year ago. I'll never find a better deal.

Technically, while sharing the same bottom end, the head design of the EP3 was not the same as the RSX-S.

It was saddled with the underpowered k20a3 version while the RSX-S had the k20a2 version.

This meant that the EP3 did not have true V-Tec and did not have the same level of performance as the RSX-S.

That said, engine swaps are very easy on the platform, and it’s a unique looking car with some fun interior designs choices like the shifter being mounted on the upper center console.

I drove one for over 5 years that had a k24a2 (2.4L engine from the CRV) paired with the RSX-S head.

Literally only 2-3 cars were under 5k. I need a good first car that would be fun to modify (and not be an ugly ricer) that is preferably awd. And a budget of 5k with VERY little wiggle room.

Dude, Legacy, in my country, costs 20k. And btw I'm from Slovakia. But You can find Porsche Cayenne for 8k here.

Subaru Legacy B4 RSK/GTB are also super cheap and make 280hp from the factory on a 2l engine.

Lincoln mark VIII. I love, love, loved my mark 8. Her name was Loli. Because when I got her for free off Facebook market place, she had a shot factory air suspension. Making her a low lincoln(lo-li). I had no clue when I got her that she had a DOHC 4.6 out of the cobra. (Sigh😔) I miss her

Half of these are nearly impossible to find under 5k unless you're willing to buy ones damaged or with 200k+ miles.
Also very surprised not to see the Mini Cooper S on this list.
