2019 BMW i8 First Drive Video Review

The BMW i8 is what a car of the future should look like. Even though the BMW i8 has been around for a few years now, the styling is still as forward thinking as any car on the road today. The 2019 BMW i8 is priced between $147,500 for the Coupe seen here and $163,300 for the Roadster convertible model. Upfront there are the signature BMW kidney grills and the classic BMW Roundel. But the rest of the car is designed to move air over the car to either make it more aerodynamically efficient or to add downforce. The roofline is low and sleek. The supercar style swan-wing doors open up and not out.

The BMW i8 is heavily comprised of carbon fiber and aluminum which means it is light and strong. Inside the cabin the styling is forward and futuristic just like the exterior. The front seats are comfortable, and the rest of the interior is very familiar for those who drive a modern BMW.

Driving is a unique experience because the i8 is a plug-in hybrid. Meaning there is an on-board engine to charge the batteries. Power when the electric motors and turbocharged 3-cylinder engine are combined is 369 horsepower. A small engine paired with hybrid electric power can make for a fun machine.

$150 grand for a new one, $60K for one 4 years old. (ouch) When it hits $45K, this will be a great buy (as long as the battery doesn't fail). If they had put the V8 from the M3 with the hybrid system from the i8, it would have been a supercar and not a Toyota Prius killer.

I have an i8 and regularly use the back seats, for adults. bit tight, but for 30 - 60mins not an issue.

Everyone wants this crazy powerful car, but driving a 230 horsepower car daily and occasional 500+ horsepower puts into perspective that I don’t need that kind of power. Fast, fuel efficient and at the cusp of technological progress makes this an ideal option for me, one day!

It is now 2024... And the i8 are actually affordable as a used car. The NSX Is not since it is wat more rare. There are around 20000 i8 made (coupe and cabrio) so it is interesting to see what the bottom price will be for a 2014 i8 and then somewhere down the line all snatch one up at bottom price and then to see it going up and in price... Love that i8...

Still a timeless design, and looks better than most the “futuristic” cars we have now. But I wish they’d bring it back with revamped design like chevy did with their c8 206’s. Also with a v8 or v10 under that thing😉
