Thank you for bringing this bad behavior to light. As a new technician, I hear the horror stories about grumpy old men belittling a new ham because of his/her lack of experience. I just passed my test on 2/10/2018 and am not looking forward to connecting with an I'll mannered individual who claims to have been born with a radio in hand. There's no need to be rude. You guys have all been where I am now. (Inexperienced and still waiting for my call sign to be posted on the FCC website.) I can guarantee that I will share what I learn and be patient when doing so.
Thanks again for posting.

Some of my subs recommended I check out your channel. Good video, I also agree on signal search. He has an infectious desire to learn.

I like your band videos you’ve been working on! Also, that hurricane video was great! Keep it up!

A HTX-202 was also my first radio! I got my ticket when I was 14. It's all my parents could afford. (And God bless them for even doing that.) Later I saved up money mowing lawns to get a MFJ tnc. I used that little radio for tcp/ip packet work in 1996. The clip was the heat sink, and man, I learned that the hard way! Thanks Eric, for your channel.

18:00 Can confirm, Eric was one of the first hams I had a QSO with on 146.640 W4PHJ. It was obvious that I was new, and he jumped right in and was very polite and helpful.

I got a buddy at work hooked on ham radio because I brought my hand helds into the office and talked about ham radio.

He now has a couple baofengs and chases the birds and he absolutely loves it.

Handhelds are absolutely critical and a LOT of fun to have.

Thanks for your amazing videos de KB3ZWI - Kevin

Thanks for the Channel Eric. I'm a relatively new ham. I got my tech license a year ago and upgraded to General in November and have been on HF since then doing mainly phone and FT8. I watch a lot of YouTube including your channel and have probably received most of the best practical information and equipment reviews from you and I appreciate that. I've seen the videos from the guy you mentioned that said that HT's were toys. Honestly, that didn't offend me at all because if you watch the videos in that series the context he was using was spot on because he was trying to explain to mainly preppers that in the case of a major disaster most of the repeaters would be down and the range of the HT wouldn't be but about 5 miles so he was encouraging them to not only get a tech license but to go on and persue a general so they can operate HF to get more distance. I didn't see him as being arrogant, I think it was just "his way" of doing the video. I understand your frustration with some of the aloofness and arrogance from some hams but on the other hand each YouTuber's delivery is different so I try not to judge and just learn as much as possible. Anyway, that's my 2 cents. Thanks again for the commitment to releasing timely and very educational videos AND for caring enough for the new hams to do this rant. For those new hams that don't belong to local radio clubs the YouTubers like yourself are the only real mentors those new hams have. Keep up the great work. 73, KM6HRD

I remember the first time I ever acted as net control for my club's weekly net. It totally got away from me and I lost control. I had a guy take me to the woodshed right there on the air. That was VERY helpful, NOT! My first radio was a Wouxon HT. I didn't want to sink a bunch of money into something that I didn't know I was going to like or not. There are just some people out there that are a**-holes! Keep doin' what you're doin'! 73 de KF5RHI

Good video, excellent points. I especially agree about "It's ok to have the latest, greatest, most expensive status symbol if you can afford it but don't tell people it's a prerequisite to participate in the hobby. Keep up the good work!

Great video! I have always liked that your videos state the facts, and nothing more, which is very refreshing. I have learned much from your videos!

Yeah, some of these old fossils have more money than they have good sense or common courtesy. After all, if they don't welcome in the new guys, who's going to buy all that gear from their widows?

Thank you for your great videos! The "new guy" stuff recently has been extremely helpful to me, and your positive and friendly presentation refreshing.  As I try to learn all this new stuff I have run into way too many cranky old Ham Trolls that have at times made me wonder why I was even trying to learn. The great news is that there are still lots of folks out there like you that are willing to take us newbies under your wings and help us find the fun and joy in  Ham Radio. Please keep on doing exactly what you are doing, and I will keep waiting impatiently (said with a smile) for your next video.  73's
