The Lucci fight is a classic. It remained top for years (many would argue it still is). That jet gatling was absolutely phenomenal.

My favorite part about Luffy and Crocodile’s third round was when Crocodile acknowledged Luffy as a true pirate, not just some wannabe rookie. It had a real “welcome to the big leagues, kid” feel to it.

The reason the Luffy vs Katakuri fight deserves to be number one, is because out of all Luffy's fights the fight with Katakuri is the most personal and intimate luffy ever had.
Let me explain, every Major fight Luffy had before that point was to save a country, a nakama, a brother or something big that was on the line. In the fight with Katakuri when Luffy left the mirror world with Brulee and left Katakuri stuck inside, there was no longer any reason for Luffy to continue the fight as he already achieved his goal to save sanji, take the red poneglyph and avoid fighting big mom or her crew.
Nothing was on the line at that point, katakuri was no longer a threat with no way to escape from the mirror world, sanji was safe with the crew and brook had the red poneglyph, all luffy needed to do was to wait for the time of the rendez-vous to come to meet his friends. But No, luffy chose to come back in the mirror wold risk the whole escape plan in order to supass katakuri and defeat him, it was the first time luffy wanted to defeat someone for himself personaly period with no other reason at all.
That's why this fight is so special and unique, both luffy and katakuri were no longer fighting for anything else but to surpass the other, and to me it deserves to be number one.

When he fought crocodile that was a hell of a fight. Took him 3 attempts just to beat him. Hell could argue it was luffys first real challenge since the anime started.

Vs Lucci will forever be my favorite Luffy's fight. The sheer weight of the battle, the desperation against powerful opponent, last but not least, the final invisible jet gatling, no other fight could top that final scene

I understand why Katakuri is number 1 but personally Luffy vs Rob Lucci is still my favorite. A ticking clock, extremely high stakes, great action, and that ending.... Man Luffy refusing to fall again until he wins and when he finally does win he literally can't move. Just showed how much heart he had. It was amazing
