I've seen so many comments in other places saying things like "KPop has always debuted minors so people should stop making a fuss" and it annoys me so much.
Thank you for pointing out that so many idols who debuted young have spoken about how difficult it was for them.
Just because an unethical thing has been done in the past does not mean it should continue to be done. It doesn't mean that idols who debuted as minors aren't talented, or that you can't enjoy their music, but the future of the industry needs to change for the mental wellbeing of future idols.

Imagine you are a 9 year old girl leaving your whole family in Thailand to travel and live in Korea where you dont even speak the language and know no one at first. After 4 years of training and debt, YG eliminate you. Just the thought of having to go back to Thailand to start over on top of facing your old friends and family is despair in itself.

13 is an actual child. She was literally only 12 years old just a couple months before, the "teen" being at the end of that number doesn't magically make it ethical. She is undoubtedly going to deal with a lot of creeps and unfair scrutiny that someone her age isn't prepared for...

Edit: a lot of y'all defending essentially child labour like not nearly every former child star doesn't have trauma or regrets. 💀 Her being 14 now isn't much better and the fact it's "normal" in Kpop is also not a good argument lol. You should know how unethical and exploitative the Kpop industry is. You say she's old enough now but when she's debuted and deals with all these problems, you're going to say "she's just a kid!"

Just the other day I saw someone saying Katy Perry was old. I was surprised and got to check her age. She's 37/38. She's not even 40 and even 40 isn't old. But that shows it's not just kpop. We're living longer, but somehow society keeps "aging" younger ppl. Plus, that's not the first 13 yo to debut. Boa debuted at 13 in 2000 and she was a soloist promoting simultaneously in Japan and Korea and being hugely succesful in both countries (and China!) just imagine her schedule. She has since commented on how lonely she used to be.

A reminder that the youngest trainees from SIXTEEN trying to get into TWICE were eliminated, including Somi, despite the public overwhelmingly loving her. The youngest girls were 16, which I am personally okay with, especially considering their concept, which started as girl crush, but still pretty innocent. Their whole career has been age appropriate imo.

I'm surprised when Babymon and NJ's age are the same. But you regard NJ as a talented group, but say that Babymon has problems. If you are sincere, you should use the same standard.

Idols have always debuted at a young age but they used to have at least one or two members that were at least twenty years old like for lesserafim I felt comfortable stanning the group because even though they have a member that’s young the rest are already adults which made it easier for me to like the group…so for me I don’t have a problem with companies debuting idols at a young age my main problem stems from when they debut a group and there’s not even one or two adult instead just a bunch of kids that are still considered middle school children or just entered high school

newjeans is really young too, its really disturbing to me with these young girls in these groups

They are too young, it's a lot of pressure on them all starting out in a competitive industry. And they seem to be getting younger and younger so definitely there needs to be an age limit on all new rookies of at least 16 years old

The thing is, nowadays for us now it’s gonna be weird the fact that people between the ages of 11-13 are debuting. But the raw reality is that those who were born in the 80s, 90s are not longer going to have the opportunity to be part the Kpop industry bc they’re slowly being considered old, that’s why we see ‘05- ‘10 liners. So as time goes by, we gotta get used to babies seeing them working like that whether we like it or not. I’m part of the ‘01 line and we’re considered old now, while I consider ‘08 liners as babies who are loosing childhood/youth, loosing privacy, freedom, happiness. Also they’re being successful luxurious brands ambassadors at such young age and whatnot😅🤣

Excuse my English 💀

It sucks, but by the time trainees are 20-22 many have already started developing issues from overuse of thier joints. Specifically their knees, hips, shoulders and neck. I think we are going to continue to see companies debuting idols at this age so they can have a group stay together more than 7 years without a member developing a severe medical condition.

rookies debuting so young is such a problem and its becoming a trend now to debut MULTIPLE minors in the same group... im really worried for these young kids in this harsh industry...

EDIT:
yalll i didnt think this comment would be that big of a controversy... literally all im saying is that rookies debuting so young has already been a problem and they were alr pushing it with 1 minor so to the new trend of debuting multiple minors is concerning too and Im saying that im just worried for these kids because the kpop industry is known to be draining and negative. I'm just expressing concern is that so wrong? I'm not discrediting other idols/other gens who debuted young too they have definitely struggled a lot. kids who debut in these groups get se***lized and constant hate and thats def not good for their mental health or development which is why it'd be better if they debuted older but in the end it's their decision so I'm just gonna root for them?? im def not hating on any of these groups bc kpop idols already go through A LOT. plus even if its normalized or "common" or if they are teenagers it doesnt magically make it better. a lot of people who joined industries when they were young regret a lot of stuff 💀💀💀 me personally tho im rooting for these girls and all the other idols, they have a dream and they are working hard to accomplish it and I hope the company takes care of them properly and gives them age appropriate concepts and etc.

SM will debut girls born in 2007-2010 soon. I hope to see this type of comments and critics then. Or is it just when YG does it?

Min Heejin is so afraid of them that she is already making content against them on the networks!😂

Everyone's blaming companies and all, why is no one saying anything about the parents who are literally allowing their kids to step into such cruel industry?? My parents could never.
Kpop companies have always been money minded, they only care about profit and they always will. Protecting your child is your responsibility! People will use you if you are available to use, make your child unavailable simple!

BAEMON seems incredibly talented, but Chiquita [I think that’s her] is only 13 years old, and that’s WAYYY too young. She should be AT LEAST 16. (As all of them.)

I wonder why kpop ent companies are debuting idols so young recently. Like they've always done this, but it's happening more often now. The most common maknae age used to be maybe 16-17, but now the youngest member is 13-14.

Idk why it won't let me reply to the first comment this but I'll just put it here:
Haeun from Lapillus was 13 went she debuted. I know almost all min-r kpop idols are 14, this is just a recent example. And they're probably gonna debut younger eventually.
