Changes to sidechaining in REAPER 7

I'm re-posting this section of What's new in REAPER v7 because it is too important of a change to be overlooked or forgotten about.
When dragging to create sends, where you drag to, or from, makes a difference on the outcome.

What's new is dragging to an FX will always increase the track channels and route to those new channels.
Which is great when that is what you want, and terrible in other situations.

Thanks for watching!

I prefer it the old way. Now this is another thing to have in consideration

Thanks so much for making videos about small but important changes!

I just wasted so much time watching videos of "the old way" and it was so much harder than this way. THANK YOU FOR THIS!

I love Reaper, but this took an already convoluted process and made it even more so. It's a simple check box in Studio One and Logic, but it wouldn't be Reaper if we didn't have to do things the hard way.

It should be the other way around - most likely most ppl are used to dragging from the routing button - and that should have remained as keeping the 3/4 but if you want something a bit fancy - Ok you can have that drag the send option. Still very cool and thanks for vid saving our time!

Yeah...nope.
Can the default behaviour be changed to how it was in the preferences?

I had no idea you could drag/drop for sends at all

new to reaper. Love it. Not so this sidechaining trouble... quite a few issues. Fabfilter Pro Q3 not ducking jet😊

Can't you just drag and release as usual, and change 5/6 to 3/4 in the dropdown? TBH I think that's easier than remembering exactly where you're allowed to drag to/from for it to work as you want.

Thx for this video, I usually use the send section of the mixer but it's good to know this might happen. Stay cool Jon!

yeah I wasn't sure about this change. I think they should (have) reused aux pins if already connected to a particular plugin, if a new send is created to that same plugin. IIWII, probably solves some other use cases I care less about...

I sidechain really silly in reaper. I put my compressor on a folder track I have my kick midi copied over into a track in this folder and it us using reasamplomatic on this "kick trigger track". Reasamplomatic i using a quick snare or side stick hit and this track is not being sent anywhere, so it is not being heard. but, it is being side chained into that compressor on the folder track. Then i just have anything I want in that any track either put it in there or route it there in a track and it will be compressed by the "kick trigger" i learned this from a really good EDM producer. works great. I save it as a track template. I've never seen anyone else set it up like this

Thank you, this would’ve taken me six months to figure out :-)

Wow! I didn't know you can drop route onto a plugin!

Do you have a downloadable podcast for work to listen to tips on Reaper, or do we need to "see" them?

Maybe there is a script that can call the sidechain function?

Does this affect sends and sidechainings made with the "old" method?
EG: In a project with those old sidechaining, do I need to remake everything with this new method?

do you have custom skins on your plugins?
