I think people underestimate how complex business processes nowadays are. Modelling a business process to software is hard. Also people overestimate their part in many tasks they do with computer, often people really only do data entry and computer does the actual work. AI makes it possible to automate so much more than has been previously possible. What I don't understand are the hype cycles. Maybe they are needed to get funding from people who don't understand tech, but have boatloads of money?

Speaking from my experience and everything i have learned.
It doesn't really make sense to speak about AI as if it was this thing that was released onto the world and that was it.

The best analogy to this that i can think of would be, being disappointed in a baby and being like, ah this baby cant even do that much, i can do more than it.
Completely detached from the fact that babies learn and are constantly growing and evolving and getting better.

The same exact thing is true with AI. Exponentially more resources, money and brain power has gone into AI. And we will see the fruits of that labor in the coming few years. It just takes time between newer models. It is true that we still need breakthroughs and if we don't create any breakthroughs then we will need to keep just adding exponentially more compute and time to the training of the next generation of models.

But breakthroughs are happening all the time. And similarly it is just a matter of time before the next breakthrough is made.


I really hope that you can take this just as the educated opinion that it is. I debate ideas not people.
You are a good speaker and this is by no means an attack on you.
And i would be open to having a discussion about this topic so we can both get interesting videos and new points of view out of it!

You can take a picture of an aisle in a retail environment and have an AI system generate a list of tasks based on what it sees and based on its fine tuned training on acceptable retail presentation and an embeddings database of everything in the store... you could not do this two years ago. To say this is not a leap in capabilities is ignorance at best.

This is a misleading video. I am an AI enthusiast but I love to hear all perspectives, even from people critical of the technology. However, I believe most of the problems you described here is from a lack of true understanding how to make the most out of AI. The fact is, people are using it wrong. People that learn how to use it properly can truly have benefits. One problem is that companies introduce the tech without understanding it themselves. The problem isn't worth AI, its in understanding how to use it.
