Hi guys, I thought I would give you all an update on how I made this 5 years after this videos posting, and will answer some of those burning questions:
I could not find 8ft tubing anywhere, instead I bought 2 4ft 12" tubes from Lowes for $15 each (total of $30). I stacked the tubes on top of each other and secured them together with mending plates (hardware for this cost me less than $5.)
I used two 1"x2" wood beams that were 8ft long, that ran along the length of the tubing. I then screwed the wood beams to the tubing for the whole length of the wood beam spaced about 6" apart. ( i dont have a price for this since I already had some laying around, but I know they were inexpensive).
I used cheap duct tape from walmart and ran it along the length in the middle of the tubing where I connected the two tubes together (they did not line up perfectly, so the tape was used to taper the gap and make it appear that I didnt use more than one.)
I drew on the designs for the top, and eyes and mouth, I cut it all out with a Dremmel and some cutting rotary pieces (total for this was about $60, since I chose to buy the tool instead of rent, But I did start off with a steak knife, which does work but takes a lot of muscle)
I than used a roll of Kraft paper (butcher paper) from Walmart costing less than $7 and two bottles of elmers glue that combined costed about $6, and with a $1 paint brush I painted on the glue and stuck the craft paper to that.
I bought a small bucket of paint from walmart that costed about $10, and got the darkest gray color I could find (I got the latex kind) and I got a $1 can of black spray paint that has a gloss finish (To reflect the light I will put inside the tree)
I had some fallen tree branches from the backyard that I used for the arms and bought some cheap L's from Lowes to screw the nails to.
The latex paint combined with the spray paint, I feel does a good job with waterproofing the trees, but just in case I always keep track of the weather and bring the trees inside if there is a more than 10% chance of rain. I also read that Boat Varnish does a great job at waterproofing, but wont attempt this due to the high cost of the materials.
I did not build a small stand under the trees but rather attached L's to the wood beams at the bottom and put steaks through them and into the ground.
All in all, this costed me about $55 for each tree, I made two of them. I would say that If you have all the materials and if you are working alone, this project can take you as little as 5 hours from start to finish for one tree.

Thank you so much for this. I'm a theatre scenic designer and I just built ten 15' trees using your technique: spray adhesive and butcher paper - fantastic! They look amazing - painted them to look like birch trees - under stage light they look very realistic. Thanks again!

You can also add a fog machine inside too. Great idea.

Not so sure about the practicality, cost and storage wise, of this prop, but I'll watch videos of Tanya Meme doing anything, so thumbs up from me.

I am going to start this project on Monday, How many hours did it take from start to finish? Where do you find the 8ft tubes? Home Depot or Lowe's only has the 48 inches and the biggest they carry is 12 inch round. Also any suggestions on how to waterproof so if it rains it doesnt destroy the tree? Last Question, what color grey paint did you use? Thanks for the Help on this

We did this at our house this year and we have people stopping by to ask where we got it.

Do not pit it in the rain. The tubes break down in water. 2 days of rain it fell apart. I waterproofed the outside but the inside was not. Next time of water proof it in and out before.

Way too heavy, hard to store, definitely not flame retardant, there some many ways to make this better.
