The sound becomes softer and softer... Video quality please

I am really glad I found this video about jet engine nozzles. The man was so interesting. What a fascinating video. This is one of the best videos I have ever seen in my whole life.

@tstatech

You do realize that there's quite a difference between the two fans, right? One simply moves air, while the other compresses and guides ambient air of drastically different temperatures. Besides, these chevrons are on the trailing edge of a nozzle, not on the turbine blades. They smooth the exhaust into a more laminar flow compared to the smooth-edge counterparts.

Way to go NASA, way to go Boeing - US engineers are awesome!

@albertman900 Take a look at just about any air conditioner brochure and it will mention a swept fan blade for noise reduction. The old blades where paddle shaped, the new ones have a trailing edge.

Think I'm going to use these ideas on my Legal Eagle XL and... Tail feathers.... that should do it !

Why is the plane so compressed in the first clip

I agree with MsStop21 I wanted to know the science behind it... take me to the lab where this work was done. A stuffed shirt with a few talking points is hardly informative or entertaining...

When sitting by the wing in the plane, my ear hurts from the noise, or pressure whatever from the plane's engines. But when not sitting by the wing, my ears was okay a little. So I'll try get a seat away from the plane's engines, and I always wear ear plugs

why do i feel like the 787 is smaller than the 737

The heating and air conditioning is already about 5 years ahead of NASA. Look a the fan blades on newer A/C's and heat pumps. They now resemble a hatchet blade which dramatically reduces noise.

These chevrons must create an acoustic interference pattern...

Will this work with kitchen knives?? Chop chop..

@tstatech don't you think NASA gave them the idea then? :P

i cant believe how log its taken for engine makers to realise this. Its no different to the cheveron gurney flaps added to racecar wings to reduce drag, making smaller voietices will deduce drag and vibration (noise)

I GAVE THAT TO BOEING AIRCRAFT CO. IN 1985 JOB INTERVIEW. NO RESPECT. GLORY TO THE GOD OF ABRAM !+!
