I'm an avid fan of the book. I have read it when I was studying college. Each and every sentence evokes certain sense of pride and we will automatically visualise those words. Before watching the movie I saw blue sattai maaran's review, I was confused why he gave such a review. But when I watched the movie I completely agree with his points. He took the proud Chola Dynasty to feed his own ego that he is bigger than Rajamouli that's it. They did not give a Prologue or Tribute to Kalki nor Chola Kingdom. The book compels you to imagine a vast, mysterious Chola land with fierce Ponni nathi aka kaveri. There was no grand depiction of Lord Shiva, King's rituals nothing. And they are showing great "Pandyas" as some dirty agori rowdies. What is this Maniratnam? I knew he gonna do this.

I'm going to watch the film on Sunday in Hong Kong. Still excited for the film, but definitely agree with your commentary about the hardcore fans who overhype the film and don't accept criticism of Mani Ratnam and AR Rahman. They're still just people at the end of the day. Mani Ratnam is already quite old now, and could definitely see him going past his peak from the late 80s-90s. And I'd like to say, I don't know why people are saying PS 1 is a film like Bahubali for Tamil audiences. We've already had plenty of epic films like Aayirathil Oruvan, 23rd Pulikesi and many older films. Not every big budget film has to be pan Indian or have huge box office to be considered worthy.

ரசனை என்பது தாஜ் மஹாலையும் ரசிப்பது தஞ்சை பெரிய கோவிலையும் ரசிப்பது.
அறைவேக்காடு விமர்சனம் என்பது தாஜ் மஹாலில் பெரிய கோவில் போல சிற்பங்கள் இல்லை அதனால் அது அழகில்லை என்பது போன்றது.

“Satendru vanthar Ramesh “😂 A good example of this problem of carbon copying a novel is when you see how Stephen King Novel “The Shining” was totally changed by Stanely Kubrick. There were lots of goose bump moments in that film including mysteries. Steven king was furious to find out that his book was totally changed by Stanley Kubrick but Kubrick The Shining came to become one of the epic films in Hollywood. So it’s the patience of the director and thinking how to craft the book to an amazing screen play and film. Jack Niklson was the villan in the film but he was also portrayed as the Main character in a way.. I felt PS has too many cut away scenes, always sarathkumar eyes looking at Nandhini like he want to say something but told to cut. The songs dances were good but all of them intertwined with the story in such that there is not start or end. Every frame has sudden edits cut always. There is no chance for audience to resonate in any of the scenes. Also I wonder why the secret cave can accommodate so many characters. I mean Nandhini said this is a secret cave but got so many people come and go through the cave as if it’s a main entrance. Also what’s the purpose of showing the gold in the cave nobody steal it anyway. It’s a good film just to go and see how it looks that’s all. Also Jayram Ravi with that one same starring eye look like can’t imagine how he can be a Raja Raja cholan. No charisma or Magnificant. Maybe could have put a younger looking Vijay Sedupathi.
