I used to have a cat that would wait for me on the front porch in the afternoon for my return home after work. As soon as he spotted me walking on the sidewalk, some 100m away, he would run to me and walk by my side like a dog until we got home. Of course, meowing all the way in typical cat fashion, _Where were you? What took you so long?_ I loved this cat so much, he was a stray that I took off the street. He was so "uncivilized" that holding him meant his 4 paws were clawing at my clothing, skin included, like Velcro. With time he got more trusting and I was able to "wear" him like a rag on my shoulder. I miss Jester.

While together, an Xgf and I adopted a kitty for her. After a short time she didn't care for him. I fed, did everything for him. He always hung out with me. When she left she took him to spite me. She called me a week later to tell me he ran out of the apt. 21 miles of travel and 3 weeks later Sebastian was at my door. He was torn up, ripped ear and scars. I took him to the vet and then home. I have no words to explain this. He never left, he was happy to be home. He lived his best life for 12 years. I miss You buddy...

My cat chose me, leaving an unhappy home, and is now my owner. He also talks to me more than anyone else.

Not only do they recognise you they are somehow telepathically linked to you. One true story about my cat was that many years ago before I could drive I went for a night out in the city, the only way I could get home was by a night service bus which dropped me at a bus stop some three miles from home (by a different route from the one I took there). This was at 3.00am in the morning and the first time I did this, but imagine my surprise to see my cat sitting at the stop waiting for my return! He escorted me all the way home.

I used to let my cat Eddie outside to roam around our townhouse complex. He's typically indoors. He was only about 2 or 3, and I was a teenager at the time. The back yards had tall wooden fences around each unit, with a small grass lane separating the back yards like a long hallway. Eddie was out one day and I figured it was time for him to come in. I opened the door to the back, yelled out Eddie! Eddie! He hopped up on the far fence probably 20 meters away from me, and ran right over to me and came home. He was a special cat. RIP Eddie (2002-2015). Please take your cats for regular vet visits and pay attention to any changes in their behavior or bathroom habits. It can be expensive, but peace of mind and a healthy pet is priceless.

Mine's stuck to me like glue. As soon as I get in the door, he's like Dino from the Flintstones. He follows me to every room. As soon as I sit down in one of my rooms, he's there climbing all over me for pets till he gets enough and sits down by me. I love it though.

My cat was my best friend. I had to travel for work and would leave her with my mom. Mom said she never left her room. But as soon as she heard me coming in the garage door she would come running to me meowing like crazy and jump in my arms. She passed away 5 yrs ago at 18 yrs old. Not a day goes by I don’t think about her. I was closer to her than any human or even family member. RIP Cali girl 😥

My cat gets me up every morning just before 5, he gets fed and I get ready for work. He’s as good as an alarm.

It's important to remember the individual personalities of cats as well. As an old guy, I've had many cats in my life over the years. My wife used to work a regular schedule and I did not, so sometimes I was home when she wasn't. At least one cat was in the habit of going to the front window to look for her to come home, and incrdibly seemed to know when she'd come home whatever the traffic and even if she stopped to do some shopping along the way. Did he recognize the sound of her car? Possibly, although there was usually about a 5 minute lag time and we lived quite close to the intersection of heavily-traveled streets. Her car would have been either pretty far or fairly close when that 5 minute lag time started, but our cat was amazingly accurate with his "wait" time. And, of course, he was able to recognize her through the window, coming from wherever she parked her car.

Anyway, I don't discount cats' ability to rely on their eyes in many situations.

My daughter gave me a rescue kitten I did not want 13-years ago….he and I are best friends and he’s sleeping next to me right now. He’s the best and I love him very much.

Pets are like small children.

They:
* can mimic the actions of their humans
* can act dramatic
* need to be taken care of
* love to play (on ice too)
* have feelings just like humans
* can love/hate cuddles
* are naturally curious
* can be taught different things
* get into mischief
* can be jealous of other pets/people
* can sometimes test your limits
* can be very smart
* can be needy/clingy
* throw tantrums
* want to sleep with you
* need to be fed regularly
* want to eat your food too
* want/love to be the center of attention
* can get excited to see you come home
* can get excited when going to see Grandma/Grandpa
* can get excited to go to the park
* can be stubborn and not listen
* can love/hate going to the Dr's (vet)
* have accidents
* need to be potty trained
* go to daycare
* can love/hate baths
* wake you in the middle of the night
* run to you when scared
* don't always look before crossing the road
... just like a toddler.

Did I miss anything? lol My only kids are my feline furbabies. :-)

When I came home after about 3 weeks in the hospital, the next morning at about 6am, he approached me in bed and cautiously looked at my face . I said, “Hello” and he instantly gave me a head butt and then went into a snuggle fest for 20-30 minutes. He then sat at the end of the bed and looked over his shoulder and looked back like, “Okay it’s time to eat.”

You give great advice and education. I've had my cats for 14 years and they do recognize me, probably because I'm the one who feeds them. Cats are very affectionate but make sure you give them space and respect their space.

when my cat was a bit younger, she used to greet me and my husband by meowing with excitement whenever we'd come back after longer absence than the usual. She recognized the sound of our engine and smelled us from the window. She would wiggle back and forth with such joy and happiness (and then educate us with meows of anger when we'd enter 😂).

My late cat who I grew up with, may she rest in peace, recognized my voice on the phone.

My adult granddaughter came to spend a long weekend with me and my cat baby. He is VERY SHY and doesn't like strangers. Last night, i walked past him, and he jumped a couple of feet into the air. He must have thought i was his new friend.😊

I had a wonderful cat, Scamper, he acted much like a dog. He was an in-door/out-door pet, but he was only outside when I was also outside. He didn't wander out of the yard, and if I lost sight of him for awhile(because I was busy) I'd call him and within 2 minutes he was right by my side. When he got older and was ill, I took him to the vet, he didn't need a carrier, he was a unusually well behaved good boy. When we arrived home from the vet and I pulled into our driveway, he placed his front paws up on the dashboard while he was still sitting on the passenger seat, became very excited, I know he recognized he was home. I was wondering what he was thinking, "This is my place, I live here!" 🐱
