Poe looks like a Raven and the name Poe may allude to Edgar Allen Poe. Edgar's works in writing are indeed Psychological horror like what may be alluded to about Poe's character. they might have been the orphan architect type who was the gloomy emo type which may be something that Playtime Co. didn't want. Its possible that Poe might be the brains of the Nightmare Critters like how Bubba Bubbaphant was. The Idea of the Nightmare Critters being a sort of family with Poe's purpose may be a subtle nod to the Fall of the House of Usher, which had a somewhat dysfunctional family.

So I think my theory is still going about how the nightmare critters are evil alter-egos of the smiling critters. Poe would be the alter-ego of Crafty, which may seem odd but break it down. Poe turns to music to ease anger, maybe that’s why Crafty turns to painting, to suppress negative feelings. If Poe took Crafty’s red, she couldn’t paint her anger away, so in a fit of rage she slashed her own arm for the red on the canvas. This started a bad cycle of self harm from crafty and she ended up dead from blood loss
