The bank literally calling in police to prevent people from withdrawing their money is simultaneously the most insane and most predicatable event possible.

I hate it when people say “the impending recession” or “the upcoming recession” when WE HAVE ALREADY BEEN IN A RECESSION! Consecutive quarters of negative growth is the definition of a recession and that has already happened!

A perfect storm is brewing in the United States. Inflation, bank collapse, severe drought in the agricultural belt, recession, food shortages, diesel fuel and heating oil shortages, baby formula shortages, available automobile shortages and prices, the price of living place. It's all coming together and it could lead to a real disaster towards the end of this year (or sooner). With inflation currently at about 6%, my primary concern is how to maximize my savings/retirement fund of about $300k which has been sitting duck since forever with zero to no gains.

I’ve never been happier that we moved to rural Canada (North of Barrie Ontario). We don’t have chickens yet, but we’re on well water, have geothermal, I have a 2 year old cultivated garden. Our community has about 50 houses. Around us is farms. Two big cities about 30 minutes away West and East.
We do have a good stock of flower, yeast, barley, rice, some medical stock, and bits and bobs of other essentials.

We did it because we like the quieter life, we’re not in our 20’s anymore, and the schools here are much better for the kids.

Now it seems it was the best decision we ever made.
