How much would you pay for that Canon Lens???

Monochrome cameras have upsides and downsides when shooting back and white. The big upside is that you catch at lot more light because of the absence of a Bayer filter, which filters out most of the light. The result is much less noise. Images will also be sharper, as no demosaicing is needed. A 24 megapixel monochrome camera really has 24 megapixels, while a 24 megapixel colour camera has 6 megapixels for red, 6 for blue and 12 for green and the demosaicing creates the missing colour information.

The downside ist that with a monochrome camera you can't decide what colour information you use to achieve the black and white image. If you have a colour camera you can use less blue for example, which will make the blue sky darker in black an white image. To achieve the same effect with a monochrome camera, you need to buy a colour filter.

Saw a video by a Dutch photographer using the Pentax K3 iii monochrome - the image quality was incredible. The removal of the bayer filter let in so much more light and detail it practically jumped out of the screen - I saw another vid that was not as impressive, but the difference in my mind was that the user in the first one really knew how to get the best out of it.

Yes, I definitely plan to spend $9, 500 on this lens. I truly believe it will be worth the investment. I absolutely love that focal range because I do shoot indoor sports and fashion photography. A 100-300mm f/2.8 for me is 100% worth the price. I can't wait to get my hands on one.

Not for the poor or faint-hearted, but before people complain about the price consider this.
The father of a friend of mine paid $3, 280 in 1987 for the Canon 300mm f/2.8 L prime. According to a couple of financial sites I checked in today's money that would be just over $10, 000. In that context this lens is a good deal considering it is a new design, with assumedly better optics specifically for the RF mount, it's a zoom and still with a f/2.8 max aperture.

That 100-300 2.8 would be fantastic for hockey!

I don’t think the K3 III Monochrome is a terrible idea. There are advantages to a sensor without a color filter for really obsessive BW shooter, and now they don’t have to pay $9500 for a Leica. What’s so bad about that?

Pentax isn’t per say a failed market. They’re just targeting those that still prefer to have a OVF over EVF. Could be similar to how Leica rangefinders are the go to for their respective style. Hope the company the best.

hmmm the Canon 100-300mm does look nice and if I had it, I might use it for my short-course racing photography. For me though, I still prefer the Canon 100-400mm pump style lens as I don't like the throw of the newer zoom lens. Yes it can suck in dust however I shoot in really dusty conditions and it's never been an issue.

... the Pentax Monochrome is such a huge success, they had to put pre-orders on hold. Know your market, Fro😂

I still have a Sigma 120-300mm F2.8 Sport from 5 years ago I now use on my Canon R3s, and absolutely great!! Seems that Sigma has discontinued the lens, but can still be found at camera shops and online for about 2/3rds the price of the Canon 100-300mm but a bit heavier, but I am still strong like bull! lol

4:55 I own a Leica. But it‘s the M5 still with a black and white film in it. 😉

The lack of a drop in filter is a big disappointment for anyone who wants to use the 100-300 in bright daylight. No drop-in ND or C-PL. Huge 112mm front filters are not a good substitute.

The 100-300 is a perfect lens for marching band photography. Did I order one. Yes. Where? Allen’s. 😊

I thought the title was going to be about Meike announcing the first "approved" RF third-party lens (85mm F1.4)

I photograph MotoAmerica motorcycle road racing, and I photograph some auto racing. So I could definitely use that lens.

I'd shoot football and possibly soccer with it. I currently shoot football with the 300 2.8 II from the sideline but when action gets too close, I don't often have time to pull out a second camera. This would solve that problem.

When will you test the new Canon RF 100-300 f2.8?
