hi everbody. 1997 was a tragic year for Poland and was also a significant warning of the dangers of climate change and adverse weather impacts. Poland experienced a deadly flood, bringing one of the biggest natural catastrophes. On record, 40% of Wroclaw got underwater. In some areas, 500 liters of water per square meter. Dubbed the “flood of the millennium,” it’s difficult to believe a natural disaster like this only happened 25 years ago.

The cause of the flood was unfortunate — two large air masses led to the mass volume of rain. The flood claimed the lives of 114 people. Economically, Poland was hit hard, and the recovery was even more difficult.

High Water might have only six episodes, but they are more than enough to tell not only the story of the disaster but also the story of the people behind it. The series really tries to do a lot of things, and it is partially successful in all of them. We are introduced to an excellent cast of actors who bring these characters to life.

High Water has a swift pace. The episodes flow by without making us impatient. There are some nice callback moments.

For a show about a distressing disaster, High Water comes across as tame and relaxed.

I was there with the Dutch Armed Forces using high capacity pumps to help getting the water levels down. Was a bit dissapointed there was no mention, not even in the end notes, of the Dutch effort in helping the people of Wroclav.

It's like they forgot about part of the show that was leading to something then nothing happened. They find out an alligator escaped like its guna show up later but it never does and the dog runs away and later they hear a bark and go towards it then slip in the water like omg I'm drowning in 4 ft of water omg nooo and then they just crawl on top a car and laugh then leave like wtf what about the dog what happens to the fuckin dog man it's like they just forgot about it. I thought they were guna save the dog from the alligator but no nothing happens. What was the point of the alligator.

I started eye rolling in the first episode when she was a bad ass and beat up the old man with a knife cause he SHOT A DAMN DEER and freaked out over it. I have a feeling my eye rolling will continue.
