The cerebellum is located behind the brainstem, at the back and bottom of the brain. This part of the brain has several functions relating to movement and coordination. The human cerebellum does not initiate movement. But it contributes to coordination, precision, and accurate timing. For example, it helps a person ride a bike, throw an object, or walk. It also assists people's vision by coordinating eye movements. Damage to the cerebellum does not cause paralysis or intellectual impairment. But it might lead to a lack of balance, slower movements, or tremors.
